Whom to book with

Who is who in oncology

You do not have to choose the right specialist yourself — call us and reception will help. You do not need a referral for a private visit. Below is a short overview of what doctors in each specialty do.

Radiation oncologist
Treats cancer with ionising radiation. Assesses eligibility for combined treatment — radiotherapy with surgery or with chemotherapy and immunotherapy — plans tests and provides follow-up after treatment. Also assesses eligibility for radiotherapy of certain non-cancerous conditions, e.g. heel spurs.
Clinical oncologist
Formerly called a chemotherapist. Assesses eligibility for systemic treatment: chemotherapy, targeted therapies, hormone therapy and immunotherapy.
Surgical oncologist
Treats cancer surgically: assesses eligibility for surgery, chooses the surgical technique and provides post-operative care.
General surgeon
Operates on hernias, skin lesions, the bowel, the breast and the thyroid, among others, including laparoscopically. Often also performs complex cancer operations.
Thoracic surgeon
A chest surgeon. Treats lung and oesophageal cancer, among others, and also carries out diagnostic procedures: bronchoscopy, mediastinoscopy and biopsies of chest tumours.
Radiologist
Performs and reports on imaging tests. At our centre: ultrasound and ultrasound-guided fine- and core-needle biopsies.
Haematologist
Diagnoses and treats diseases of the blood and bone marrow — from anaemia to leukaemias and other blood cancers.
