In Poland we are able to cure 5 in 10 patients with rectal cancer. Every year more people die of rectal cancer than are killed in road accidents. If we learn to recognise this cancer early, we will have a chance of curing 9 in 10 patients.
There is a lot to fight for. Education – first of all, know the signs!
The most common symptoms of rectal cancer include:
1. Changes in bowel habits.
2. Blood in the stool.
3. Straining (tenesmus) and a feeling of incomplete bowel emptying.
4. Pain in the lower abdomen.
5. Unintentional weight loss and general weakness.
