Surgical oncologist
National Institute of Oncology (NIO), Gliwice — Clinic of Surgical Oncology
Dr Mirosław Strączyński is a surgical oncologist who has worked at the Department of Oncological and Reconstructive Surgery of the Institute of Oncology in Gliwice for 30 years and has been a mainstay of our clinic for 12 years. He is an oncologist with a broad training (he is also a specialist in general surgery) and continually develops his skills through courses and placements in Poland and abroad.
Above all, he is an empathetic doctor, focused on helping patients and resolving their problems quickly. He stresses that modern cancer treatment depends on skilfully combining surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and that the correct sequence of these methods is critical. Before treatment begins, the cancer must be fully staged and the treatment regimen decided by a team.
Treatment of skin cancers, in particular melanoma; gastrointestinal cancers (including cancers of the stomach, rectum, colon, bile ducts and liver); breast cancer (diagnosis of breast lumps); thyroid cancer and head and neck cancers.
He has performed dermoscopy for many years; it allows melanoma to be detected early and significantly increases the chance of a cure. He readily takes part in public awareness campaigns promoting early cancer detection, especially of skin melanoma.
In addition to dermoscopy, Dr Strączyński performs the following at the clinic:
